Dog sleeping habits can be so amusing. Read some of the funny stories from our Subscribers and Clients about their dogs and their amusing dog sleeping anecdotes…
When my dog was a puppy I woke up one night to hear her lapping water out of my glass of water on the bedside table. I thought, I wonder how many times she has done that !!

Our dog stays on my bed until the last one to bed puts him out. I off course do not put him out, so therefore the occasional sleepover! If he thinks it is bed time and he is going out he runs, jumps on the bed, cuddles up to me, closes his eyes and plays dead, even carrying it on as he is picked up, going very heavy, not moving and not opening his eyes. Doesn’t work however!! I think I’m the only soft touch in the house!

We have a king size bed and small Moodle so my husband and I laugh every time we wake up clinging to either side of the bed whilst our boy spreads himself comfortably across the middle.

We had to buy a king size bed to accommodate myself, my partner and our beautiful 45kg Rhodesian Ridgeback boy who knows that he is definitely part of the family!

They do sleep beside the bed most nights, but often try the sneaky 3am jump up onto the bed 🙂

Often with the two of them they either mirror each other’s position or end up in the same positions.
My littlest dog, a Maltese called Bailey, growls every time I move in the bed. When the light goes out he pushes up close to me and that is where he wants to stay for the night. He doesn’t like to be moved. He likes to be in charge.

In his crate next to the bed, on the bedroom floor, on my bed, in my bed. Whatever suits him at the time.

My partner and I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Golden Retriever as well as 2 cats. We ended up getting a king size bed to accommodate us all! On a cold Canberra night, Lucy ends up between us down the bed, Zorro on the end of the bed between us, Cosmo on my pillow and Heidi, on the side of the bed along my legs. As you can imagine, it can get a little crowded at times – I wish there was a larger bed than a king size!

Two white fluffies on the bed, they sleep at our feet and eventually climb up higher during the night. We can’t move or roll over in case we disturb the k9 slumber and should we make a move we are swiftly rewarded the disapproving growling!!

Our dog, Molly, is quite funny. If she doesn’t get your attention she will chase her own tail until she does and if she doesn’t want to go walking will lay on her back with her legs up in the air as if to say who me.

We have 2 Cavoodles. The bigger one, Henry, likes to tell us when it’s bed time. He’ll go upstairs into our bedroom and give us a few barks to tell us it’s time to go to bed. Our little fella, Harry, likes to sleep on my pillow above my head. They have slept with us ever since they were puppies, they don’t know any other way now and neither do we!

In the evenings we are really boring pack members watching the TV so the baby (Holly the beautiful boxer) goes outside (doggie door) & puts herself to bed. She will come in & check on us from time to time but she loves her bed & it is outside & she seems fine with it. In the heat she spends lots of time under the house as well – it’s cooler than inside even at night time

The decision at our last bed purchase to go from Queen size to King size was purely based on having more room for the dogs, but they are two adorable Toy Poodles … Question remains, what is bigger than King Size and how do we extend the room to fit it … 😀 Oh, and for question 2, there should have been another option “Most of the above”

Toby my long haired miniature 11 year old long haired dachshund always sleeps beside our bed in his own bed……..but as soon as he sees my eyes open in the morning he knows it’s time to get on the bed for a morning cuddle I can’t even get away with squinting at him in the morning, he always sees my eyes move!!

When we are in the lounge room or anywhere in the house at night time, our dog wants to be with us, indoors. When it’s around the usual time of night that we go to bed, our dog sometimes goes to the door and asks to be let out, as if to say “it’s time to go to bed”. At other times, when we are getting ready to go to bed and she’s still on her mat, we ask: “J wants to go to bed?” and she’s up in a flash and runs to the door. She’s happy in her kennel, in a protected area on the balcony, but when there is thunder and lightning, she prefers to be indoors.

I thought I’d do the right thing and buy my little girl Peaches, some Dentastix to chew on to help keep her teeth in good shape. I tried them once, I tried them twice but she didn’t seem interested. She sleeps in the laundry on her own futon, so I decided to put one in with her overnight. About 12 midnight she started barking so I went to check on her. There was nothing there so I made my way back to bed. About 3 minutes later she started barking again. Again I checked on her. This went on another couple of times before I realised that there was an unknown object in the laundry with her. The Dentastix, of course. I removed it and she fell asleep!

Our dog has 2 beds of his own , one in each of the master bedrooms, but alternates during the night between both/either of them and a choice of 3 couches …what a life!

Not necessarily funny… he is 7.5 years old and only been sleeping on my bed for the past 7 or 8 months. Prior to that he slept in his own foam doggy house in the corner of my room. More often than not, during the night (often quite early) he jumps off and retires to his own bed in the corner. He usually looks for permission before he jumps up …but very recently has stopped doing that ….must have figured he has an open invitation now.

Leisel, my mini schnauzer, will often sleep on my husband’s pillow if he is late coming up to bed.

He starts off in our bedroom but then goes to another part of the house when we turn off our light.

At 6.00am if I were not all-ready up, the elder dog would sit at the head of the bed and softly bark to wake me, if that failed to work he would push the bed from one side of the room to the other, giving a little gruff and looking each time it reached the end of travel to see if I were awake! He would keep this up for a good 20 mins or till I arose and made HIM a cup of tea with milk and two weet-bix.

Three small fluffy cross breeds all sleep on my husband and my king size bed. We sleep either side and the pooches sleep vertically, in a line down the middle. They know when there is any marital hanky panky going to occur and go into their own beds in the WIR. Then reappear when the coast is clear and resume their bed places.

Our house is two storeys and the dogs have their bedroom downstairs in the garage with their beds, they are more than happy to go downstairs once we start locking up at night, which also means they can come and go as they like for wees etc.

My dog is a cross papillon. He is 2 y/o and is very loving. He sleeps in between me and my husband and me. My dog snores too.

Even though our Miniature Australian Bulldog sleeps outside on the Patio in her very comfy houndhouse with plush mattress and weatherproof flap, she still gets tucked in every night with a big smooch. She loves her house and is very willing to go to bed when we retire.

We have a male Jack Russell called Indy and a female Pug/ Jack Russell called Roxy. They originally had their own bedroom in our spare room (queen bed just for them!) but as a baby is on the way they now have a new bedroom downstairs in our house which they love. They have their rug and little beds all set up- not quite as good as the queen bed but they like having their dedicated space! At night all we have to say is “bedtime” and they run downstairs and jump into their beds. Our family ritual every morning is to open the door downstairs and let them run into our room and jump into our bed. Roxy gets under the covers, head on my pillow, paws tucked over the blanket like one of us! Indy snuggles at bottom of bed. This is their favourite (and ours) time of the day! Great way to start the day 🙂

Our two Boxers sleep beside each other, curled around each other and sometimes even on top of each other, whenever they are snoozing they are always close enough that they are touching at some point. They even manage to squeeze into the dog house together that was built originally only for one dog.

The only time she is unhappy is if there is a storm or heavy rain – then she comes into our bedroom. Generally, she knows that when we go to bed, she goes to her bed in the sunroom, but once she hears movement, she demands to join us.
When we go to bed he comes onto the bed for a cuddle, or sometimes just to lie down the bottom while we read, but when we turn out the light he goes out of the room, returning at dawn for another cuddle, or, as I said, just to lie down near our feet.

They have their own bedroom and we close the door. My husband leaves for work early and they join me in bed once he leaves. Occasionally they stay all night on the bed and the beagle sleeps smack bang in the middle and the spaniel gets pushed onto the floor.

Inside the cool or heated laundry under the house, but ‘outside’ in that she can as a 14 yr old take her toilet breaks as and when she needs to. Her good morning woof is what wakes us and brings her in for breakfast.

We have two dogs – one is 13-1/2 and she used to sleep on our bed, but now because of occasional little “wet spots” she sleeps in her basket in our bedroom, and the younger one on the bed. This works well because the older one is quite deaf now and doesn’t really realise that the younger one is on the bed. She’s really comfortable in her basket. We have occasional guilts about it though!

Meggie is a very small jack russell (around 5kg) despite this somehow she takes up a lot of the bed. She must be touching one or ideally both my husband and I. Meggie will often stretch out lengthways between us across the bed pushing her feet into us and pushing us apart until we are on the edges of the bed.

My big girlie dog sleeps right next to me on her mattress next to mine which is on the floor. She also moves to her mattress outside on the balcony or her other in the living room. She spends at least half her sleep time sleeping on her back with her jowly lips hanging down. She also rests or naps like this outside in parks and between games and I am often asked by horrified passers-by “what’;s wong with your dog?”

In the winter he likes to sleep on my bed – at my feet on my clothes, or if it is really cold, snuggled into my back. In the summer he seems to believe under my bed is cooler, even though I have the fan on and he would get a breeze on my bed. Story 1: He is old and arthritic, so if he needs to get off the bed to go to the toilet – he stands on me. Story 2: When I had two dogs, they slept outside. If a family member came to stay, they slept on the pull out couch and always wanted my dogs to share with them. As such, nowadays, even though he is allowed to sleep on my bed anytime, he gets excited when the couch bed is pulled out and wants to lay on it all day. He is not interested on lying on the couch any other day, just the couch bed.

Growls if we move and claim some bed. will then usually jump off, lie on mat at foot of bed until we’re asleep again and – you guessed it – sneaks back up again. Curls up initially but as the night goes on stretches right out and hogs half the bed. Any wonder we have some sleepless nights – but we love him and he’s always welcome when he sneaks in. Loves a bit of a wrestle on the bed – bit of play fight.

Usually he sleeps on his own bed in our bedroom, except when my husband goes away, he takes his place in bed next to me with his head on my husband’s pillow. Also sometimes in winter he joins us in bed.

Normally sleeping in the laundry our puppy Gus is happiest on the bed. Starting down the bottom on his blanket by midnight he has wormed his way between us leaning against me and pushing my partner out with his legs!

13 YEAR OLD LONG HAIRED CHIHUAHUA “SEBASTIAN”–SLEEPS ON THE BED IN WINTER FOR WARMTH AND UNDER THE BED IN SUMMER–SNORES WORSE THAN I DO !!
Our oldest dog Coop (15mths) sleeps in between my husband’s legs at the bottom of the bed and our 8 month old kelpie cross Mischa sleeps in between us. Sometimes during the night Mischa creeps up and you wake up with her on your pillow. Sometimes Coop goes into a deep sleep and falls off the bed. Is quite funny.

My dog has his basket just outside my bedroom door. He sleeps in his basket if I close my bedroom door. If I leave it open he sleeps on the floor beside my bed.

On my head, in-between my legs, on my tummy or my back sometimes we wake up she is on her back paws up in the air wedged between the two of us.. In the morning I cop a paw in the face when she wants me to wake up!

Your findings may save the relationship. Although my man has been very understanding and lets my dog sleep IN the room he cannot understand why in the world I would want him sleeping IN the bed! So the compromise is ok, but he now may be allowed in the bed more often!
